Midwives

Midwives play an important role in advising, assisting and supporting pregnant women to quit smoking for the health of their baby by:

  • Asking about smoking status
  • Assessing nicotine dependence and readiness to change
  • Advising pregnant women and their partners to quit smoking
  • Assisting with information about methods to support quitting
  • Arranging follow up, including referral to Quitline
